Opponents of a plan to build a mega-development at the Oakridge Centre Mall in South Vancouver say they are worried the project is already a done deal.

The proposed redevelop of the Oakridge Centre mall would double the amount of retail space to 700,000 square feet and add more than 2,800 housing units above the mall.

Tracy Moir, of the Langara Oakridge Area Residents association says the plan will bring too much density, too many tall towers and too much road congestion to the neighbourhood.

Plans for the 28 acres of land at 41st Avenue and Cambie Street will go to a public hearing next week, but Moir says many local resident are concerned the project is already a done deal

"Everything is open to discussion at the council table. Having said that, people have been saying from the beginning this is a done deal because there are a number of meetings between the developers and the city before anything even gets public," said Moir.

In October the developers modified the plan to increase the number of social housing units from 150 to 280 and doubled the size of the civic centre proposed for the redevelopment.
