Vancouver made it through the best chance for any flakes this morning with only a few clouds, as the snow stayed west of the Georgia Strait. Going forward, the forecast is cold but clear, says CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe.

Snow has accumulated on Vancouver Island today, where 2 cm to 5 cm may end up on the ground in Victoria by the time the system slides south and clears out this evening. Tonight, temperatures drop even further than they have over the past few days, as an arctic outflow sets up.

Arctic outflow warnings have been issued for the Fraser Valley, Howe Sound and Whistler for wind chill values below -20 C tonight and into Friday. Even Vancouver's overnight lows will get down to -8 C.

Sun and sub-zero temperatures will dominate the weekend forecast, with the best chance for any snow in Metro Vancouver coming Monday night into Tuesday.

Catch Johanna's full forecast on CBC News Vancouver at 5 and 6.
